Your Questions, Answered with Care

We know choosing the right preschool is a big decision. Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have. Raising children is hard work, and we want to work alongside you to help you help your little ones grow into happy, healthy, contributing adults.

We believe children thrive when they connect with nature. Our preschool blends outdoor play, hands-on learning, and gentle animal care to spark curiosity and nurture a love of the environment.

We follow a child-led, play-based philosophy. By allowing children to investigate and interact with the world around them, we foster independence, creativity, and joyful discovery.

The Reggio-Emilia model is about learning by observing and exploring, not just learning from a textbook. We are hands-on!

We serve organic, local foods wherever possible. We also grow a significant portion of our fruits and veggies for the year in our large, organic garden. The kids participate in the garden as much as possible and it is a learning and growing experience for them.

Of course! This means that we have an early childhood learning environment that is healthy and safe, by reducing children’s exposures to toxic chemicals.

Outdoor exploration is a cornerstone of our program. Fresh air, sunshine and exercise are our core values. We are an outside classroom as much as possible. When it is nice out we have circle time, lunch & snacks and playtime outside. When the weather turns chilly, we still spend a significant amount of time outside, both morning and afternoon, so we ask parents to dress the children appropriately.

Yes we do! We have a certified Pre-k program with ample space and materials to ready your child for Kindergarten. This is a Reggio-Emilia philosophy that is carried over into our Pre-k program.

Enrolling your child at Maine Nature Academy Childcare is a pretty straightforward experience. Begin by calling us for a tour….we’ll be happy to show you around and discuss our options for helping your child connect with nature and give them the foundation to grow into an adventurous and confident adult. We recommend applying early, as spaces are limited and fill quickly each year.

Important dates, such as application deadlines and notification days, are shared on our website, private Facebook page and in follow-up emails. After your visit, we guide you through the next steps, including confirmation of enrollment and details about preparing for your child’s first day.

Preparing your child for their first day at Maine Nature Academy is a wonderful opportunity to foster excitement and ease any nerves. We recommend talking together about the adventures awaiting outdoors, and with new friends, to spark curiosity and comfort. Reading a book together about this new adventure will also help ease their entry into new days without Mom or Dad. We all like to know what to expect, and children are no different.

For a smooth transition, pack comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes that can handle outdoor play. Please bring a spare set of clothes, a sunhat, and a reusable water bottle. For chilly days, layering is key, and rain gear ensures little ones can enjoy every season safely. In the winter please bring a snowsuit, hat, mittens, and warm boots. We will provide you with a list of items that will help your child’s day be safe and comfortable.

To help your child feel at home, include a familiar item like a small plush or family photo in their backpack. Labeling all belongings helps keep things organized and eases the daily routine for everyone. Please include a favorite blanket for rest time.
